Subject: Recruitment of Senior Consultants & Teacher Fellows in the “Department of Elementary Education (Early Literacy) through the Early Literacy Programme in the NCERT.
The Department of Elementary Education (DEE) is a nodal department of NCERT to advise the Government of India on policies and programmes pertaining to elementary education in formal and Alternative Innovative
Education Sector at the national level. It also acts as a nodal centre at the national level for the implementation
of SSA and RTE Act 2009. Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan the department works for the enhancement of reading & writing opportunities and skills in children of classes I and II. The Early Literacy Programme has been initiated for developing teacher's manuals on early literacy, conducting training programmes, publishing
children's magazine and undertaking advocacy on generating a reading culture, conducting research and
evaluation studies, assisting teachers in the establishment of reading corners in schools and collaborating with
other institutions and groups working in this area.
The Early Literacy Programme requires the following academic project staff on contract basis for a specific
period. The selected person will be engaged initially upto 31/3/2012 which may be extendable from time to time on the basis of performance till the completion of the project. 1. Senior Consultant (1) for collaboration with States (Rs. 50,000/- pm)(Consolidated)
(a) Essential Qualification:
(i) Post graduate in Education or M.Ed.
(ii) Four years of work experience in the field of Elementary Education.
(b) Desirable Qualification:
(i) UGC net qualified
(ii) Ph.D in education
(iii) Broader understanding of Early Literacy and language development
(iv) Experience of organising teacher training programme, creating material for teachers or children
(v) Good command over English Language
(c) Job Profile: The Senior Consultant will support in the functioning of Early Literacy Programme. He/She
will work to coordinate and collaborate with States/UTs for effective implementation of
the Early Literacy Programme.
2. Senior Consultant (1) for Mathura Pilot Project (Rs. 50,000/- pm) (Consolidated)
(a) Essential Qualification:
(i) Post graduate in Education or M.Ed.
(ii) Four years of work experience in the field of Elementary Education.
(b) Desirable Qualification:
(i) UGC net qualified
(ii) Ph.D in education
(iii) Broader understanding of language development and assessment
(iv) Experience of field work and monitoring and evaluation of projects
(c) Job Profile: The Senior Consultant will undertake teacher training programme, conduct monitoring and
evaluation under Mathura Pilot Project.
3. Teacher Fellows (3) (Rs. 25,000/- pm) (Consolidated)
(a) Essential Qualification:
(i) BA, B.Ed or B.El.Ed.
(b) Desirable Qualification:
(i) M.A in Education or M.Ed.
(ii) Two years of experience of teaching children of primary level/working in project related to language
development.
(iii) Broader understanding of Elementary Education
(c) Job Profile: The Candidate will support in the functioning of the Early Literacy Programme. He/She
will assist in coordination and collaboration with States/UTs for effective implementation
of Early Literacy Programme.
The candidate will support in the functioning of the Early Literacy Programme in the Department of Elementary Education. He/She will be required to design research and evaluation studies data collection data analysis and report writing besides other activities of the department such as organize/coordinate teachers training programmes and field visits.
