Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research organization under
Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, undertaking advance level of research in all
aspects of the geophysics and geodynamics of Himalaya. It has strong specialization in the areas of
Seismology. The Institute has established a VSAT linked Seismic network for on-line seismic data
recording and state-of-the-art Multi-Parametric Geophysical Observatory (MPGO) for earthquake
precursory research in integrated manner. The Institute also houses modern analytical laboratories.
To encourage young students/ researches to make career in earth sciences, the Institute has
doctoral program and offers Research Associate ships to fresh Ph.D. To promote research in
emerging areas of earth sciences, the Institute also undertakes sponsored projects. Director, WIHG
invites applications for the following tenure positions in the project sponsored by Ministry of Earth
Sciences, Government of India.:-
PROJECT - I - : “V-SAT Linked Seismic Network for Seismic Hazard Studies in Garhwal
Himalaya” under the supervision of Dr. Ajay Paul, Scientist “C‟ . The
tenure of the project is upto: 11.11.2013
1. POSITION : RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: 01 (One)
2. Remuneration : ` 22,000/- p.m. consolidated plus admissible House Rent
Allowance, which is at present @20%. Sufficient supporting
contingent grant for field work etc. will be provided
3.Age Limit : Not exceeding 35 years as on 27.10.2011
4.Essential Qualification : First class in M.Tech/M.Sc. in Geology/ Geophysics /
Physics/Computer Science .
5.Desirable : Ph.D in Geology/ Geophysics / Physics/Computer Science and
field experience in handling of seismic equipments.
2. POSITION : JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW: 01 (One)
Remuneration : ` 12,000/- p.m. consolidated plus admissible House Rent
Allowance (HRA), which is at present @ 20% during the first and
second year and ` 14,000/- p.m. consolidated plus admissible
H.R.A. during subsequent years, subject to satisfactory
performance. In case the performance of the selected candidate is
not found to be satisfactory, the fellowship can be terminated.
Sufficient supporting continent grant for field work etc. will be
provided.
Age Limit : Not exceeding 28 years as on 27.10.2011.
Essential Qualification : First class in M.Sc./M.Tech Geology/ Geophysics/ Physics/
Computer Science
PROJECT - II : "Multiparametric Geophysical Observatory for Earthquake
Precursory Research at Ghuttu, Garhwal Himalaya" . The tenure
of the project is upto: 02.08.2015
PROJECT SCIENTIST-B: 01 (one)
Pay Scale : Rs. ` 15,600 - ` 39,100 - Grade pay ` 5400 plus admissible
allowances.
Age Limit : Not exceeding 35 years as on 27.10.2011.
Essential Qualification : 1st Class M.Sc./ M.Tech in Geophysics/Physics with at
least 3 years work experience in any modern areas of
earthquake related sciences.
Desirable : The candidates having Ph. D in relevant area and experience in
installation, operation and maintenance of seismological and
geophysical equipments and data processing will be preferred.
NOTE:
(i) The qualifications and experience mentioned are the minimum requirements.
The Institute reserves the right to short list the candidates based on their
qualifications and experience.
(ii) The number of positions mentioned above can increase or decrease. The Institute
reserves the right not to fill any position, if suitable candidates are not available.
The Institute reserves the right to prepare a panel of candidates and fill the positions
falling vacant or other sponsored projects during the validity of the panel out of
the candidates in the panel.
(iii) Maximum 5 (five) years of age relaxation for the candidates belonging to
the SC/ST category and women candidates or for physically handicapped
persons and 3 (three) years age relaxation for the candidates of OBC
category will also be allowed. Three years age relaxation to the
Government sponsored project employees working in the Institute will
also be allowed.
(iv) To and fro 2nd class sleeper train fare/ordinary bus fare by the shortest route
will be paid to the outstation candidates for attending the test/interview.
(v) The Institute reserves the right to relax experience and age in case of exceptionally
qualified and meritorious candidates. The Institute also reserves the right to relax
age or qualification in case of exceptionally qualified experienced deserving
candidates.
(vi) Incomplete applications, applications not submitted on prescribed form or
applications not as per any of the conditions of this detailed advertisement
notice available on the web-site of the Institute will be liable to be rejected.
(vii) All the above mentioned positions are purely temporary positions co-terminus with
the tenure of the relevant sponsored project. There is no possibility
of regularization of the services of the concerned appointees under the relevant
sponsored projects.
